Oh my! What a night... I just didn't get much sleep at all. Up and down all night with escapee puppies wanting to potty in my room, then wanting to play or cuddle with me. And yes. I had to step in that brown gooey puppy poo that is like poo cement and won't come off. I have hardwood floors and it is almost exactly the same color of the poo. I will never look at the floor color the same again. Instead of medium brown, I will forevermore think puppy poo brown. Thanks puppies! :) Of course I had to oblige to the cuddling and play. For one, who could resist. And two, I had to get them tired again so they would stay in their pool. LOL Little spotted turkeys!
I am so tired and trying to wake up with super charged coffee, however I made it a priority to find the plastic sheeting. I will be getting the setup switched around today! I just can't keep on going on one night good sleep and one night almost no sleep.
Toenails will get all trimmed today as well. Pups never like that, but it goes so quick at this age while their toenails are so little and just a quick snip with my nail clippers does the trick. Amazing to think in just a few weeks I will introduce them to the dremmel.
Okay to get you up to date on the "normal" development stage for puppies this age(14-21 days):
eyes open - check
ears open -check
more mobile and may leave the nest to eliminate on their own - check
teeth coming in - check
starting pawing, play growling and biting at littermates, Figgy and me - check
Momma dog starting to spend just a bit of time away from puppies - check (Figgy likes to get out of the whelping pen and relax on my bed.)
My thoughts on the litter so far...
I am really liking the structure and soundness of this litter. Amazing rears and soundness visible at just 2.5 weeks of age. Most puppies are usually more rubbery and softer at this age, unless you have a natural hard body. A breeder is lucky if they get one of those in a litter. Spotting is looking nice on two of the livers, more open and evenly distributed, the three others have more spots, but if they hold like Figgy and Blackie that is fine with me. I will just have to be patient a few weeks longer. I hope they continue to please me as we develop each week.
More coffee and more for you later, puppy blog watchers... bottoms up....
