I will get a video showing how a breeder first tests to see if pups are hearing or not. They should all be asleep and no one touching. You do not want them to wake each other up by their movement. You need to make sure they wake up because they actually hear you! Hearing at this age is a good thing, but it is waiting on pins and needles hoping that they all continue to hear. A lack of pigment in the ear canal will cause the hair-like cells in the Cochlea to die off. These hair-like cells transmit the vibrations of sound so the dog can hear.
One of the puppies has a bit of loose stool this morning. Figgy is a good mom and keeping everything cleaned that the only way I know is a slight discoloration on the blanket. I will keep a close eye on them and will probably run by my vet today. It is time to pick up their first meds for worming and will try to take a stool sample to check for anything else.
This is a video above showing how you initially test for hearing. All are spread apart and sound asleep. you make noises and they all should wake up on their own without being bumped or stepped on by one of the other puppies. This video shows all woke up on their own. One can assume at this point that the Bilateral hearing puppies are the first responders and the unis take a bit longer to wake up as they could be sleeping on their one hearing ear, but it is much too soon to make that call for sure. Ear canals may still not be open in one ear yet.
